With the Philadelphia Police Department already finding the new year anything but happy, I thought I'd share some good news.Rarely are good things reported by the local media, and I wanted to share this with you.
Police in the city's Southwest section have upgraded the quality of life for amputee, Stephanie Richardson.
Richardson was homebound, stuck at home and dependent on others until an emergency call happened to bring police to her front door.Not only did I want to share this because it is a good, positive thing, but also because this is the kind of stuff officers around the nation do for their citizens all the time.
"All I can say is, God is good," Richardson said.
"We get a lot of negative publicity in the 12th District sometimes," Philadelphia police Sgt. Ed Shickle said.
At a recent roll call, 12th District officers learned about Richardson's plight. She lost her left leg 12 years ago because of a vascular problem and needed a motorized wheel chair to get around.
As a police fundraiser was started, The Scooter Store stepped forth and donated one of its motorized "Jazzy Select" chairs and Richardson couldn't wait to get started.
"Oh yeah. Now I can get around," she said.
The 12th District Command officers and three squad members proudly looked on Tuesday.
