auf Wiedersehen

Werner von Trapp (Known as Kurt in the movie, Sound of Music) has passed at the age of 91.

In honor of his family's fame and escape from the Nazis in Austria, I give you this:

(H/T: Yahoo)

If you'd rather see the "Monsterpiece Theater" version of the movie, then pay a visit to Alistair Cookie.

That brought back a lot of memories. My mother was really into musicals and had the soundtracks to a bunch of them on vinyl - before VHS and DVD.

What "culture" I have is all due to her. Thanks, Mother.

We used to have a movie theater inside of our local mall. The movie must have been making its way through theaters years after its initial release. I remember my mom taking me to see the movie when I was little. It had an intermission. :)

It is a great movie.

The Sound of Music is one of my favorite musicals. At our wedding, I walked down the aisle to "Eidelwiess" and my bridesmaids walked down the aisle to another score from the movie, when Maria got married. All of our wedding chapel music was show tunes, except for the one song my sister sang during the lighting of the Unity Candle, Come Away with Me, by Norah Jones. My third daughter and I used to watch The Sound of Music together when she was young, and sing as loud as we could. She likes So Long, Farewell, in particular.

I now have to introduce my youngest to it.

I am such a huge fan of the Sound of Music and the true story behind it, very inspirational.

I watched this with my family growing up every year when it would be on TV.
