Charlton Heston

Charlton Heston has passed away at the age of 84. His accomplishments are many: actor, SAG president, AFI chairman, he was one of many who marched in the civil rights marches, Medal of Freedom recipient, and president of the NRA for five years.

As a child and into adulthood, he was my yearly appointment with Moses. It is hard to believe that there was a time when Hollywood actually made movies that depicted the Bible without it being a huge controversy. While artistic license was probably taken, the overall message of God's faithfulness, provision, and His desire for our obedience was present.

One of my most recent memories of Heston is, of course, as president of the NRA. I admired him for standing up for the beliefs he cherished. I admired that he was never afraid to say what he wanted. I think age afforded that opportunity as much as his willingness to just state what he knew was right. So few are willing to do that today.
All of the awards he won as an actor and all of the positions and lofty titles are second to the fact that he was a man of conviction.

Rest in peace, sir.
