Picture of the Day: Rain

It's cold, windy, and rainy today. While that bums a lot of people out, it doesn't really bother me. I kind of like rain. I like what it represents. Even though the winds and rain batter or at the very least cause some mild disruption to the day-to-day, I'm reminded that without the rain things wouldn't grow and thrive; we wouldn't have the landscape that we have.

Today the rain made me count my blessings. Instead of leaving work late, as I had planned, I left right at the end of the day because of the forecast for stormy weather. Leaving school with no work in hand just made me really happy. As a result, I found myself thanking God for lots of stuff: my health, continued improvement in my legs, the weight loss, financial provision, and for the people God has put in my life.

I was reminded to enjoy the rain, what it represents and all of my blessings because someone I work with was just diagnosed with cancer--the third person at work in as many years, with the same type of cancer. Fortunately, things look good for this person and the other two are doing well, too.

Given what "could have been" the past few years, I gleefully, yet soberly, thanked God for his faithfulness in my life.

It gives me hope for everything that I still lift up to Him in prayer, and hope for the things I've yet to even begin to know that I need to lift up in prayer.

All of that blessing counting and contentment led me to this passage from the Old Testament:

Lamentations 3:21-26
21 Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope:

22 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.

23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

24 I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him."

25 The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;

26 it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the LORD.
And of course, what rainy day would be complete without THIS song?

Good post RT, and a good perspective! Positive works!!!
Too many people now days do the oh me, oh my, everything is against me and play the blame game.

I like your blog for the positive attitude and acceptance of life as it comes!

Good to hear of you leaving work on time and also of the more positive vibe you are feeling these days.

Have a great weekend - you deserve it.

I'm sure I can be accused of "oh me, oh my" every now and then...who can't?

Thanks for the compliment. I think I'm just working on realizing that you got to learn to work with what you have.

Just have to keep telling myself that my job will cannot control my life.

On the outside. HA! I'm trying. I want to be a blessing to others and not a burden. Part of that is working on the mindset. Can't be a blessing if you're self-consumed, eh?
