Btw., U.S.A Admiral celebrated his one-year blogiversary yesterday! Go wish him well and check out the funny stuff he's posted recently. :)

Learning perspective

I've had my share of health issues over the past 14 years. I just ain't been right since a car accident. But, I've talked about that before, in other posts.

Last year this time, my doctor sent me for a mammogram because she felt something. I went and immediately after was told to stick around so they could check things out further with an ultrasound. Praise God, that was benign, but I had to keep getting checked periodically over the past year to make sure things remained "stable." Now, I know they would have not messed around, especially at my age, and if they thought it was anything but benign, they would have done a biopsy. However, that doesn't stop your mind from going to places of angst. You see, I still have a lot of stuff to do, and I truly believe God has a lot planned for me.

Last week, I had a mammogram. The prescription said I should get an ultrasound if needed. Twenty minutes after they smooshed and pulled, I was sent on my way. I was confused. I was confused, because the entire year I've been obsessed a bit about my health and well, the girl said they wouldn't "read" the films until Monday and no one wanted to poke and prod further. Well, that just sucked. I was confident, but not. Can't explain it.

A few days went by and I hadn't heard from my doctor...good stuff, and then yesterday, I got a letter from the radiologist: "No evidence of cancer." I waited a year for that sentence (even though in the back of mind I knew that sentence was unspoken, but present).

I tell you all of that to tell you this (especially as a prelude to my Sunday Song and Bible passage--which a friend sent me with absolutely no clue of all of this): The past year, I've learned perspective.

I've learned that the needs of my mom and dad, my financial issues, my petty appearance struggles should be welcomed and embraced. I learned that all the stuff I get anxious about and all of the stuff that seems so enormous...ain't nothing. Given my choice, I'd choose loneliness, being broke, needy parents, and a stressful job over cancer any day.

One of my co-workers was diagnosed with breast cancer during this past year. As I was observing her yesterday, bravely walking around without hair and knowing what she's been through, I realized how truly blessed I am. I bet she'd rather have my very minute, little issues.

Plainly, I've been a spoiled brat.

I publicly want to thank God for His mercy, long-suffering, favor, and grace. Without it, I'd be in the crapper. Well, I would.

God is good.

Beauty & Ick

After I took my dad out to lunch, I went into his backyard to look at what is left of my grandmother's flower garden. For many years, she'd escape to the yard to take care of her roses. It wasn't a huge garden by any means, but it reminded me of the pictures of British Columbia that she showed me once in a while. It made me think about how homesick she must have been at times.

My dad said there was a really pretty rose in the garden, so I went to go see it, especially since I had my camera.

This is the rose:

Then I saw another rose:

Next year, if my dad still has the house I think I might start to revive the garden. It is one of the major things I miss about my grandmom. We used to spend a lot of time out there when I was younger. Most of the time, when I was little, I had a hand shovel and it was my job to find pebbles in the side yard. My grandmother used them in the bottom of her flower pots (so the plants could breathe).

The ick? This was literally glued to my dad's windshield (he got the glue off).

My dad hasn't a real clue about the who this is or the hateful message behind these beliefs. Thank goodness. I was kind of troubled to see this thing, to be honest.

Sure this isn't my school district?

While THIS happened in Japan, it could very well happen in many schools across this country (especially my school district).

Geesh.

Sunday Song

Psalm 139:14
I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

Isaiah 40:30-31
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;

but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

This week's Sunday Song is about realizing your potential in God. We need to not allow others to determine our worth. It leads to anxiety, upset, and some very long hours spent on unproductive thoughts.

Likewise, we shouldn't think so highly of ourselves that we neglect the worth of others.

Pictures of the day

O.k. Still feeling good from a compliment or two, I thought I'd post a picture of my "do" and my pedicure. Keep in mind that I had absolutely no make up on (yikes) and I had some hair color on my forehead (it happens). It is redder in person. Yes, I know, I have jacked up looking tootsies, but ill-fitting shoes and walking around in heels from the age of 12 didn't help them. Enjoy...I hope. HA! (Yes, cell phone camera---hmmm...can I think of any other excuses?)

Jim McKay

Sportscaster, Jim McKay has passed away. I can remember just about every weekend, as a child, hearing his voice while I watched Wide World of Sports. I loved listening to Jackie Stewart call races and watching Evel Knievel trying to jump, well, everything. I remember watching many fights, lots of ice skating, and skiing.

McKay called many important events as part of his tenure at ABC Sports, none more so than the Munich Olympics, when 11 Israeli athletes were murdered by terrorists.

Mr. McKay was also a veteran of WW II. Sadly, we are losing so many from that brave generation.

Rest in peace, sir.

Weighin' in

I'm up two pounds this week, but that is in keeping with the roller coaster: lose a bunch one week, lose none the next, gain a couple the next, and then hopefully nothing the fourth...rinse, repeat.

I haven't been eating fish like I should be. I really think that's part of my success when I experience it. When I eat it 2-3 times per week, I lose weight, plain and simple. Maybe it is the essential oils and acids? I'm not a professional, so I wouldn't know. All I can do is try.

So, given my pattern, I should be the same next Saturday, and then the following week....down some pounds. At least I've hit that 20 pound mark, even with the fluid fluctuations. I haven't gone back up the scale to where I started in January '07, either.

If people can't hang with me in a patient manner and just want to judge the outside...that is their problem. I'm tired of worrying about everyone else.

I received two truly nice compliments, today: 1. That I look great, and 2. That my face looks completely different, now. (The people at the salon I go to haven't seen me since February.) That put a little spring in my step.

I tried to take a picture of my hair (in a way that my whole face can't be seen) and of my pedicure. I think I'll post them later. I do have dye on my forehead and no make up, though. Eh, what the heck. Maybe I will post them. I don't care anymore.

Whatever I want Wednesday

Since Captain America has Judas Priest Tuesday, I thought I'd do whatever I want Wednesday. Not that I don't already do whatever I want, but it feels better saying, "This is what I wanted to post because that's where the whim took me."

So, after a meeting about our contract talks that are now in need of intervention, I saw this car. I think it is the size of my trunk. I cringe when I see these, then I giggle. They make me giggle.

Annnnnd, since it is "Whatever I want Wednesday," I'm going to play a song that I heard on the way home: "Train Kept a Rollin'" by Aerosmith. I looked at many different versions. There were a lot with Joe Perry and his insanely beautiful long hair, but he kept his shirt on. So, I opted for this one: Short hair (can live with it) and his shirt comes off at some point. Yes, I really like the song, too. I love the drive in it. I could just sit in a chair across from Mr. Perry for a good long time, just to watch/listen to him play. *sigh*

Enjoy!

Yep.

I'm fried crispier than bacon.

Some goodies and a funny

I'm flat-out knackered. So, in lieu of trying to write anything, I thought I'd find a few stories to make you smile and to remind you that there are good people in this world. At the end, though, I've provided a look at the craziness we might witness in life, too.

For the good stuff, I have decided to focus on the older members of society:

Jack Lucas is a Medal of Honor recipient. He lied about his age to join the Marines and subjected himself to serious injury by shielding other Marines from grenades at Iwo Jima. He's not well, but the story that accompanies the information related to his illness is a reminder of the bravery seen in all generations of our military.

********************

Don't mess with 71-year-old Korean War Vets. 'Nuff said.

********************

Here is a story about a grandfather that saw a need his autistic grandson has and decided to find a way to meet that need. Awesome!

*******************

And while this isn't good news, it makes me appreciate my job. Personally, I would have had this guy in a headlock much quicker than these people did. Co-worker goes crazy: Stand there and watch or make sure he doesn't hurt someone? You be the judge. (He starts out lower third of the frame and in the center.)
